If happiness has a hiding place, Roxane Battle may have found it.
As a new mom with a divorce decree and a reporting job on the 5 o’clock news, she landed on a few thorns among the roses as she learned to raise a child by herself, while trying to keep it together in front of the camera. Guided by a strong belief things could and would, get better, Roxane shed a few tears and found a lot of joy. Pockets of joy are what she calls them— moments where it feels like every thing is going to be okay.
Pockets of Joy Journal
As a follow up to the best-selling personal memoir Pockets of Joy: Deciding to Be Happy, Choosing to Be Free,” I’ve created the Pockets of Joy Journal to inspire you to write down your very own pockets of joy—the times in your life when you felt of all things, happy. I believe that we must be intentional about seeing joy; it’s all around us, if we look for it, especially when life gets a little hard.
Remember meeting your old college roommate for coffee and how you laughed the afternoon away? Or what about the day you saw the most gorgeous sunset? Or the time you shared a delicious piece of chocolate cake at your favorite restaurant? Or the day the one you love said “I love you too.” Those are all wonderful pockets of joy and your life is filled with many many more.
Rather than post or tweet those moments, the Pockets of Joy Journal is the place to write them down for keeps. Bound in beautiful gold foil and royal blue leatherette, this journal is the place to collect your most treasured happy memories. Write a little or write a lot, whenever you want. We all know how journaling is supposed to be good for us.
The Pockets of Joy Journal includes:
- a personal introduction by the author
- joyful quotes appearing on every other page
- a satin ribbon bookmark
- a pocket envelope to store mementoes
(that would be me!)
There’s even a place to jot down a personal #hashtag for each wonderful memory. When you’ve completed the journal you’ll have your very own pocket of joy to look back and remember the times in your life, however fleeting, when you were truly happy. The Pockets of Joy Journal may become the best book you’ve ever read, for the simple reason that it was written by you! So what are you waiting for? Start writing and become part of the #pocketsofjoy movement!

Pockets of Joy
So how’s it coming? The diet? The work out routine? The new project? If you’re like a lot of us, by now those well-intentioned New Year’s resolutions have started to wane a bit. According to recent research, by the time February rolls around, more than a third of us have broken those promises we made […]
You didn’t win the Powerball either huh? Sorry about that. I spent ten bucks on five tickets, just because. I guess I’m one of those people who subscribe to the ‘entertainment value’ theory, you know, being a part of something BIG, part of a national dialogue. If anything, a two dollar ticket holds FOMO –fear […]
What’s it like to be a nobody? After I left my job as a television news anchor I found out. I had no place to go and nothing to do. I had traded in business suits for sweat pants and morning editorial meetings for lattes at Starbucks. There I would sit, morning after morning broken […]
Not so long ago, I discovered buried in the bottom of a desk drawer, an essay I’d written while taking Lamaze classes. I wrote about my fears, my anxieties and ultimately my joy about becoming a new mom. My son is now 22, and that journal entry became a chapter in my first book. Pockets […]
Transforming pain into power is possible. In ‘Pockets of Joy,’ Roxane shows us how to tap into our unlimited potential and how to keep our spirit rising!
—Tavis SmileyTalk Show Host
Pockets of Joy briefly recounts her divorce, her departure from KARE11, focusing largely on the next chapter in her life as a single mom. Rather than belaboring her heartache, Battle emphasizes the lessons she learned in unexpected venues such as the bleachers on which she watched her son play basketball. A deeply spiritual person, Battle counts her belief that things would and could get better among the reasons she was able to move on.

Pockets of Joy is candid, beautifully written and easy to read. It is Roxane’s story of finding those pockets of joy during an extremely difficult season in her life. Whether you’re a single mom or not, you will find yourself quickly drawn into it, and learning invaluable life lessons along the way.

In this delightfully honest book, we cheer for Roxane as she makes difficult and wise choices–and willingly pays the price professionally—in an effort to forge work-life balance and maintain the God-honoring priorities of being a great parent. Her refreshing example in our success-crazed culture is an inspiration to women and men everywhere!
